Week 1

She didn't really like her first bath!

Avery was a good baby. She only woke up 2-3 times a night. Just like any other baby she ate, slept, and pooped. It was extremely nice to have my mom here. I was pretty sore. This whole week was Justins first week at Action Cycles and Sleds. He was pretty quiet all week. Nervous breakdown I'm sure! LOL!  Avery had her first dr apt on the 31 of August. She was 6pds 1oz. We were just excited to see that she gained weight. We are terrible at breastfeeding.
We were so sad to see grandma go. We wish she could have stayed another week. Thanks grandma for all your help!!!

time to go home

Monday Justin had to go back to work and so did my mom. Tiffany and Kynzlee came up to be with me until Justin was off work. Avery and I were finally released Monday afternoon. My dad, mom, Jamie, and Zac were coming up once my mom was off work. They were coming to drop off mom for the week. Luckily Aunt Tiffy and grandma went and bought Avery some preme clothes so she would have something to wear. She weighed 5pds 10oz. when we left the hospital.
When we arrived at our house Aunt Kassie and her mom and come over and cleaned it for us. Oh it was nice to come home to a clean house. Thanks Aunt Kassie and Barb! I swear within 10 min of arriving home the whole town was at my house. Pretty overwhelming to say the least. We were still super excited to be home!

A few more visitors

Kaleb rubbing my feet for me! Such a sweetie!

Finally get to be with my little girl

Now, you would think with Avery in the NICU Justin and I would have gotten a decent nights sleep. It was around 4a.m. by the time they took me to my post room. In the meantime Justin had been in the NICU with Avery. Once we got to our room and finally in bed the night didn't end. My nurse had to come in and check on me every 15-20 because of my increased risk or hemorrhaging and blood clots. It seemed like I would finally doze off and in she came. Our first visitor came around 9 am. Stephanie Latimer. She had one surgery to work then came down to visit on her way out. Unfortunately, I was pretty sick. I just kept throwing up. Luckily, Steph is a nurse and was there to help me because Justin was not coming close. Wimp! Thanks Steph! Soon after one of the nurses came in and said Avery's blood glucose was still up and down, but they still wanted me to go try breastfeeding once I could sit up with out getting dizzy. It wasn't until around 5 I was actually able to go into the NICU and hold my baby girl. She was terrible at breastfeeding. Heck, if I was hooked up to an IV I guess i wouldn't want to work for my food either. After checking her glucose levels every half hour if they leveled out after I fed her 3 times then she could come into my room. Needless to say we kinda cheated. Avery's NICU nurse was one of her former instructors at CSI. At 10:30 they brought her into my room. YAY!!! We finally got to hold her without all the cords. Now everyone else could hold her also.

Another late night again. Everyone went to our house and spent the night so they could come back and visit more Sunday.

Avery Grace Mecham

Ten pushes later our little Avery was here. My Dr. barley made it just in time, and he was just down the hall. August 26 at 11:26p.m. 5 pounds 15 ounces and 19 inches long. Because she was 4 weeks early she went straight to the NICU.  Her mom was exhausted to say the least. Her lungs were developed; they were just concerned about the huge bruise on her head. She was also struggling with her blood glucose levels. On the way to my post room my nurse wheeled me by her NICU room so I could see my little girl before bed. Oh one thing I forgot to mention and I have to. While I was pushing I was actually extremely calm. Surprisingly! I ask Justin if he would grab my phone and turn music on. Well you'll never guess what song he picks. Big girls don't cry by Fergie. That didn't last long. Second song he chose was ACDC. Avery, yes you were born to ACDC! A special thanks to Aunt Tiffany for the amazing pictures!!!

36 weeks

Felt pretty good after my epidural!

This is how he was clear until it was time to push. NERVOUS

I had my 36 week check up on Tuesday August, 23. I ended up being dilated to a 3.5!!! Wow, my nurse and doc were just as surprised as I was. Wednesday night I was feeling some pretty strong contractions. After walking around the neighborhood for a little bit with Kassie and Justin, I decided to get into the bath tub and if they continued to get stronger we would head in to the hospital. Well sure enough they didn't really get stronger. Thursday, Justin had some errands to run in town so I decided to tag along. It wasn't long before I started contracting. We called my nurse and she said to come on in so they could monitor my contractions. My contractions were there. The nurse checked me and I was at a 4. An hour later still at a 4. My Dr. said to go ahead and go home and take a unisome and get some sleep then come back in the morning. 8 A.M. the next morning my sister Tiffany calls and says, "I'm headed up lets get that baby here". We did everything and I just wasn't sure if my contractions were strong enough. We went in anyways. I ended up getting admitted. After I received I DDVAP for my Von Wille Brands disease I could get my epidural. YES!!! Felt pretty good after that! Luckily, I have the best Dr. in the world, Dr. Packham. He was not even on call and came in for me anyways. After my epidural had set in Dr. Packham came in to break my water. Everyone was putting on bets as to when Avery would be here. Dr.Packham said 2 a.m. was good bet. In the meantime, my family and I enjoyed watching Funniest Home Videos. Lets just say it was the funniest episode I had seen. A little while later my nurse Jo, best nurse EVER, came in to check me. Surprise!!! I was already at an 8. Time to start pushing she says!!!  Ready or not, here we go!!

Becoming a MOM

Pregnancy was not the smoothest ride for me. My doctor had me on lock down. Justin worked for Western Line Builders at the time and was gone 8 days home for 6. They were on a mine with no cell phone service. This was a major stressor for us. We were worried I was going to go into labor while he had no service. Being pregnant during the summer sucked. Every one was either water skiing or riding and I just had to sit on the side lines. One of the problems I encountered was bloody noses. I would get them 2-3 times a day and they would bleed for hours at a time. Luckily my doctor sent me to ENT who contacted a hematologist and together they decided to put me on  clotting medicine.  Problem solved. Other than the preterm labor the rest was pretty smooth sailing for then on out. Once July hit and the heat really set in I swelled like a balloon. There are some women out there who love being pregnant. I on the other hand, disliked it VERY much!!! Its all worth it in the end!
